How I work through it

I start with the question you need answered. I record what I examine, what it shows and what remains unknown.

  1. Scope

I record the questions, source material and intended handover. I identify gaps before treating a collection as complete.

  2. Ingest

I organise files, preserve source references and index readable content. I apply OCR to scanned and photographed documents.

  3. Search

I search across documents, messages and spreadsheet cells. I use dates, participants and extracted names or identifiers to narrow the material.

  4. Check

I check findings against the underlying records. I separate source evidence from machine output and document conflicting interpretations.

  5. Handover

I prepare findings, a chronology or a technical question register with source references and unresolved items.

One place to search the material

I ingest PDFs, Office files, email, chat exports, photos, scans, screenshots, databases and phone exports. The source of a finding stays visible.

Documents

OCR and cross-document search

I make scanned and photographed text searchable and extract names, dates and identifiers. I return to the source document to check a finding.

Cells

Search inside spreadsheets

I index spreadsheet cells alongside the document collection. In one matter, spreadsheet search covered more than one million cells. That figure is rounded.

Messages

Reconstruct conversations

I work with available WhatsApp, WeChat, Signal, SMS, iMessage and email records. Date and participant filters help place messages, media and calls in context.

Scale

Large collections made searchable

In one matter, I recovered and made searchable more than 500,000 chat messages and more than 10,000 messages from a second app. These figures are rounded.

A finding another person can check

Search helps locate material. The report still needs an underlying record, a clear interpretation and an honest account of what is missing.

Local

AI assisted search on my machines

I keep sensitive material on machines I control for local AI assisted search. I review the output and make every reported finding traceable to a source document.

Language

Multilingual material

I handle multilingual evidence, including Chinese language documents and messages. I arrange human translation where needed without claiming personal fluency.

Review

Questions and conflicting findings

I build technical question registers for lawyers and external experts. I return to underlying records, reconcile conflicting findings and document corrections.

Context

Documents and chronology

In one matter, a searchable evidence set grew past 75,000 documents. In one matter, I built a combined chronology of several hundred rows. Both figures are rounded.

The limits, before work starts

I describe what the evidence shows. A report cannot promise a legal outcome.

I provide technical analysis, not legal advice. Search results and AI output need source checking. The report records gaps and uncertainty and cannot promise a legal outcome.

Material that cannot be opened stays a gap. An encrypted file, a password protected document or an export that was never made is reported as missing, not guessed at.

Overwritten data cannot be recovered. I refer physically failed media needing a cleanroom, chip off extraction and specialist opinion or testimony beyond my scope. I preserve and prepare the material for handover.

What it costs

I quote each matter before work starts, from $1,000 a day, plus GST. The scope sets out what I will examine and what you will receive. Reply within one business day. All prices are in AUD, plus GST.

Questions before you start

Does everything need to be organised first?

No. I can start with disorganised documents and exports. I record where the material came from, identify gaps and agree the questions before building the search environment.

Can you search scanned documents and spreadsheets?

Yes. I use OCR for scanned or photographed documents and cell indexing for spreadsheets. Findings are checked against the source material rather than treated as established by a search result alone.

Can you put messages from different apps together?

I reconstruct available conversations and filter by date and participant. I can compare WhatsApp, WeChat, Signal, SMS, iMessage and email records. Missing or inaccessible records remain gaps.

Is sensitive material uploaded for AI search?

For this local AI assisted search, sensitive material stays on machines I control. I use AI to help locate and organise records. I review its output and keep reported findings traceable to source documents.

Can you work with Chinese language material?

Yes. I provide technical handling and machine-assisted analysis of Chinese language records alongside other material. I arrange human translation where needed. This is not a claim of personal fluency.

Can you answer questions from my lawyer or reviewer?

Yes. I build a register of questions, source records, findings, limits and unresolved items. In one matter, I answered more than 150 technical questions and about 50 reconciliation letters for an external reviewer and the client's lawyers. These figures are rounded.

Send the questions and describe the material behind them.
